Privacy, in plain language
Kioder is made for children, so we collect as little as we can. This page explains what happens to the information your child enters.
Last updated: October 2026
What we do not ask for
- No account, email address, password or surname.
- No photos, location, or contact details.
- No advertising and no advertising trackers.
What your child enters or generates
- A first name. Entered on the start screen. It is saved in the browser on that device so your child doesn't retype it. We recommend a first name or a nickname.
- A random visitor ID. Created in the browser so we can tell sessions apart without knowing who anyone is.
- A sound setting. Whether Byte's voice is muted, saved in the browser.
- Code and questions for Byte. When your child asks for a hint, the code they wrote in the exercise, their question, the hint level and their first name are sent to our server, then on to the AI service that writes the hint.
- Simple usage events. For example "opened an exercise", "pressed Run", "asked for a hint", with the random visitor ID. We use these to see which exercises work and which are confusing.
Please remind your child not to type personal details such as a surname, address or phone number into the code editor or into questions for Byte.
Who processes it
- Anthropic runs the AI model behind Byte. Hint requests are sent to it. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that processing.
- Render hosts our server, which receives hint requests and usage events and keeps basic technical logs. Render's privacy policy
- Cloudflare serves this website and may measure visits with privacy-focused analytics that do not use cookies. Cloudflare's privacy policy
- Google Fonts delivers the typefaces on our pages. Your browser requests them from Google, which can see the visitor's IP address. Google's privacy policy
What we do with it
- Write hints and keep the service running.
- Understand which exercises children enjoy, so we can improve them.
- We do not sell the information and we do not use it for advertising.
Keeping and deleting
The first name, visitor ID and sound setting live in your browser. You can remove them at any time by clearing the site data for kioder.com in your browser settings. Our server keeps usage events and technical logs only for a limited time on our hosting provider. To ask us to delete anything linked to your child, write to us.
Parents' role
Kioder is meant for children aged 10 to 14. We recommend that a parent or guardian is aware of their child's use and agrees to it. If you are not comfortable with any of the above, please don't let your child use the app.
